Firstly, a very big ‘Happy New Year’ to all of you, from the Year 1 team! We hope you and your children all had a wonderful Christmas, and have a great year ahead 🙂
The children will be given the opportunity today in literacy to discuss and write about what they got up to during the Christmas holidays, and Mr Langley and myself look forward to hearing and reading all about it!
In literacy for the rest of the week we will be touching upon some poetry, before writing our cold task on Friday for a ‘tale of overcoming a problem’.
Our topic this term is space, which the children will be introduced to today, by watching a video of the 1969 moon landing, and discussing what they already know about space and what they would like to find out.
Our topic lessons will link to this, with history focusing on the moon landing, and making clay rockets in art. In science we will be planning and making our own rockets, considering carefully which materials to use.
In maths this week we will be sequencing days of the week, months of the year and the seasons.
In RE this term we will be learning about Christianity, and initially about Jesus as a leader and the qualities of any good leader.
Our PE this term will be football outside on a Monday and dance indoors on a Thursday. We would ask that children are sent with jogging bottoms and trainers for PE, as we are expecting it to be quite chilly outside!
